The Board heard a presentation by our fundraising consultant, Kurt Saterbak. The campaign was discussed in phases beginning in August 2006 with a completion date of September 2007. The campaign will begin with a study to learn about how much money can be raised for this project as well as identify any issues that will need to be addressed and any questions which will need to be answered. . June represented the last month in fiscal year 2006 and the Library ended strong corning in at 113 percent of projected revenue ($124,042.08) and expenditures corning in under budget at 97 percent. . Library circulations were down I percent overall compared to last year; however circulations to Dubuque residents increased about 5.5 percent. The decrease in circulations came from contracting cities (-34%), non-residents (-28%), and reciprocal borrowers (borrowers from other communities in the county and Iowa; - 22.5%). . During FY 06 reference questions in Adult Services dropped 24 percent while directional questions increased 30 percent. The large discrepancies over the previous year are attributed to the change in our recording of questions. . The use of public Internet computers was down by a total of 92 hours (.5%) over last year in Adult Services, however the number of hours increased 253 hours total in Youth Services (9%). . Overall electronic access of library resources continues to grow. Of significance is an increase of 123.5 % in the use of the "First Search" database, an 80% increase in "Heritage Quest," a 60% increase in Reference USA, and a 21 % increase in "Newsbank." The most incredible growth was seen in the use of our online catalog, the use of which increased 246% (reflects in library use and remote use.) . Bids for the van that will be used to pick up books left at the new west side drop location were opened, but questions remain about the lift gate so the van has not been ordered yet. As part of the City of Dubuque's fleet, the van will need to be manufactured so, there will be up to a 12-week delay. The material returns have been ordered and are in storage until the van is ready. An area at Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School was identified as a location for the boxes and the school district offered to pour concrete and form a slab on which the boxes can sit. . Herald for one year ($8,000.) This advertising will start in September and run for 12 months. 16 ads per month will be placed in the newspaper on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The ads are intended to interest more people in the Adopt- An-Author program and the individual databases that we offer with remote access. Several databases and the Adopt- an-Author program will be featured monthly and rotate over the year. The objective is to introduce this wealth of resources to the community while driving the cost per use down. Statistics will be kept to evaluate the effectiveness of this campaign. .
