Proclamation Public Safety Memorail Day5 6UB~E "'''''7'''''- 5?-""'- PROCLAMA TION WHEREAS, the events of September 11, 2001 have awakened all Americans to the valuable services provided to our communities by the men and women of our Law Enforcement, Fire, EMS, and military personnel, collectively referred to as our Public Safety agencies; and WHEREAS, the members of the various Public Safety agencies of the City and County of Dubuque play an essential role in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of their citizens; and WHEREAS, it is important that all citizens know and understand the duties, responsibilities, hazards, and sacrifices of their Public Safety personnel, and that members of our Public Safety agencies recognize their duty to serve the people by safeguarding life and property, by protecting them against violence and disorder, by safeguarding our homes, property and lives from the dangers of fire, by providing emergency medical services and by serving our country in military service; and WHEREAS, the men and women of these Public Service Agencies of the City and County of Dubuque unceasingly provide a vital public service. NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THAT THE DATE OF THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 BE DESIGNATED AS: "PUBLIC SAFETY MEMORIAL DA Y" IN DUBUQUE, IOWA, AS A DAY OF REMEMBRANCE AND IN HONOR OF THOSE PUBLIC SAFETY PERSONNEL PAST AND PRESENT, WHO BY THEIR FAITHFUL AND LOYAL DEVOTION TO THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES, HAVE RENDERED A DEDICATED SERVICE TO THEIR COMMUNITIES AND IN SO DOING, HAVE ESTABLISHED FOR THEMSELVES AN ENVIABLE AND ENDURING REPUTATION FOR PRESERVING THE RIGHTS AND SECURITY OF ALL CITIZENS. IN COMMEMORATION OF THEIR SERVICE, A PUBLIC MEMORIAL SERVICE WILL BE HELD ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2006 AT MARSHALL PARK AT 5:30 P.M. ALL ARE INVITED.
