PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, today our City relies more than ever on the active involvement of
citizens 55 years old or older. As our population continues to age,
contributions of older workers will play an increasingly important
role in maintaining this City's strong economy in a highly
competitive marketplace; and
WHEREAS, oftentimes older job seekers have a difficult time finding employment
but AARP Senior Employment assists them in this process by
providing paid training assignments, job search assistance, and
employer hiring incentives; and
WHEREAS, older workers work as well as their younger counterparts, bring
stability to the workplace and often serve as role models, reduce
training costs because of their low rate of turnover, and are capable
and eager to acquire new skills; and
WHEREAS, employers and public officials should promote and encourage
placement of the older workers in responsible positions with fair
wages and benefits which will benefit all.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA
DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE WEEK OF SEPTEMBER 24 THROUGH SEPTEMBER
30, 2006, AS:
"EMPLOY OLDER WORKERS WEEK"

set my hand and caused the Great

Roy D. Buol, Mayor
