PROCLAMA TION
Whereas, fifty years ago, a group of committed mental health advocates
gathered in Dubuque to establish a local chapter of the National
Mental Health Association; and
WHEREAS, in the intervening fifty years, equally committed area citizens have
carried on the work of the founding members; and
WHEREAS, the Mental Health Association has become an outstanding voice for
mental health education, advocacy and collaborative effort in the
Dubuque area; and
WHEREAS, on Thursday, October 12, 2006, a public banquet, award ceremony
and lecture by Joshua Shenk, author of Lincoln's Melancholv. How a
President's Depression Challenaed a President and Fueled His
Greatness will celebrate this significant event.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
HEREBY PROCLAIM THURSDAY, OCTOBER 12, 2006 AS
"MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION DAY"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA AND URGE ALL CITIZENS TO TAKE THE
OPPORTUNITY TO THANK MEMBERS OF THIS OUTSTANDING ORGANIZATION
FOR THEIR EFFORTS TO RAISE AWARENESS AND ENCOURAGE ACTION ON
BEHALF OF THOSE WHO SUFFER THE EFFECTS OF MENTAL ILLNESS AND FOR
THE ASSISTANCE OF THEIR FAMILIES.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have
hereunto set my hand and caused the
