Our organization" Dubuque County Friends of Extension" is working to pass Public Measure D on the
November 7lh election.
Various supporters have visited or have been in contact with all the City Council members and with Mayor
Buol to discuss how Dubuque County Extension is an asset to the city by organizing and carrying out so
many programs.
We need this Public Measure passed because, in 1986 the state of Iowa mandated that the only way a
County Agricultural Extension Office can increase its tax base from $112,500 is by passing a Public
Measure. We would like the public support of the City Council by receiving a "Resolution of Support" at a
Council meeting.
We have the papers in place and our Public Measure will be on the ballot. Since this is such a small increase
in the property tax, we are hoping the City Council will see what a difference this could make for the youth
ofthe county as well as any citizen who wants to use the educational knowledge of the County Extension
Office.
Could you please help us-we need to know how to go about getting this "Resolution of Support" from the
City Council possibly during an October meeting. This would also help explain the benefits of this Public
Measure to the citizens of our city.
