PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all Dubuque citizens,
and playa unique role in the lives of our families, our communities, and our
country, and
WHEREAS, the arts and humanities affects every aspect of life in Dubuque today, including
the economy, job creation, education, creativity, and community livability, and
WHEREAS, the City Council has created an Arts and Cultural Affairs Advisory Commission
whose mission is to build the community of Dubuque through arts and cultural
programs by developing visibility, funding, audiences, information and
partnerships, and
WHEREAS, the City is providing financial support to arts and cultural organizations to help
enrich and sustain those organizations and to expand the arts and cultural
programming in the community, and
WHEREAS, the City has initiated Art on the River, a public art exhibit of sculptures for
enjoyment of all Dubuque citizens and visitors, and
WHEREAS, Dubuque's Downtown Cultural Corridor has been recognized as one of the
initial cultural districts in the State of Iowa for the important role it plays in the
life of the community, and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that vibrant museums, theaters, galleries and other cultural
institutions not only add to the quality of life of a community, they also add
quality jobs and can playa huge role in attracting citizens and visitors alike,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THAT I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF
DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM OCTOBER AS
"ARTS AND HUMANITIES MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE AND CALL UPON OUR CITIZENS TO RECOGNIZE AND
CELEBRATE THE POSITIVE IMPACT THE ARTS BRING TO OUR COMMUNITYI.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque, IA to be affixed 2nd day of October,
2006.
