PROCLAMA TION
WHEREAS, energy efficiency is important to the City of Dubuque, because it saves local residents
and businesses money, and helps protect the environment because it lessens
greenhouse gas emissions focusing on global climate change concerns; and
WHEREAS, the City Mayor and the Dubuque City Council are dedicated to maintaining secure, safe
and affordable energy resources for their citizens; and
WHEREAS, by taking the ENERGY STAR@ Change a Light pledge - citizens of Dubuque have the
opportunity to save energy and to help voluntarily reduce greenhouse gas emissions by
switching to ENERGY STAR@ qualified compact fluorescent lighting products in their
homes; and
WHEREAS, if every home in Dubuque made this one change, our city would save 16,356,000 kWh of
electricity, the environmental equivalent of removing over 411 cars from the road while
also reducing the amount of greenhouse gas emissions going into the air by 25,810,000
pounds; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque is proud to do our part in this nationwide effort, celebrating this day
- ENERGY ST AR@ Change a Light Day - and recognize the 2006 "Change a Light,
Change the World" Campaign through November 30th, to promote energy efficiency and
environmental stewardship in every household, by installing ENERGY STAR@qualified
lighting; and
WHEREAS, by focusing on energy efficiency, we will help to promote a healthier environment,
enhanced economy, sustainable community development and national security for all
citizens of Dubuque; and
WHEREAS, energy efficiency is a premise of environmental and social responsibility and as the goal
of the ENERGY STAR@ "Change a Light, Change the World" Campaign is to improve the
lives of the citizens of Dubuque and the World, now and into the future.
NOW THEREFORE, I Mayor Roy Buol accept this pledge and encourage the citizens of Dubuque to
make this important change, and by virtue of the power vested in me as Mayor, hereby
proclaim October 4, 2006, as
ENERGY STAR@"CHANGE A LIGHT" DAY
AND INVITE THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO PARTICIPATE WITH THE CITY OF DUBUQUE IN
THE ENERGY STAR@ 2006 "CHANGE A LIGHT, CHANGE THE WORLD" CAMPAIGN.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque, Iowa to be affixed this 2nd day of October,
2006.
