Dear Roy:
I and the staff of the Iowa Department of Public Health, Oral Health Bureau would like to congratulate you for
assuring the health and safety of all Iowans through effective and efficient practice of water fluoridation io your
community. The Centers of Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognizes your community water
management system for outstanding performance io maintaining optimum standards of water fluoridation levels
for the past 12 consecutive months.
Community water fluoridation has been recognized by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as
one of the 10 great public health achievements of the 20th Century. CDC recommends water fluoridation as a safe,
effective and inexpensive method of preventing tooth decay. Studies have shown that tooth decay is prevented
among all age groups, not just children. This population-based measure has dramatically reduced the overall rates
of tooth decay for most Americans.
The state ofIowa has an excellent history of providing optimally fluoridated water in public water supplies,
includiog new rural water supplies. We salute your efforts at the local level for making this possible.
Indeed, our state remains one of America's great places to live because of you!
Sincerely,
