MEMORANDUM
October 31,2006
TO: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
FROM: Don Vogt, Public Works Director~
SUBJECT: Floodwalllmprovement Projects Change Order
INTRODUCTION
The purposes of this memorandum are to provide information and recommend action
regarding the attached change order for the Floodwalllmprovement Projects currently
underway.
BACKGROUND
The Floodwalllmprovement Projects, providing auxiliary power to the Maus Lake and
Hawthorne Street pumping stations, along with numerous infrastructure enhancements
at the Bee Branch pumping station, are currently underway. The total budget
appropriation for the projects is $555,766.00 - $446,420.80 for the construction contract,
$66,400 for engineering fees, and $42,945.20 for contingencies.
DISCUSSION
A memorandum from Street and Sewer Maintenance Supervisor John Klostermann
regarding change order #2 is attached. Also attached is change order #2 in triplicate.
The work associated with this change order is considered essential for the
improvements at the Bee Branch pumping station.
The cost of this change order is $2,097.50. When added to change order #1, total
change order costs to date would equal $8,925.91. This would leave a contingency
fund balance of $34,019.29. The additional cost of these two contract changes equals
2% of the original construction contract for the project.
ACTION STEP
Your endorsement of the attached change order is recommended and requested.

MEMORANDUM
October 30, 2006
To: Don Vogt, Public Works Director
From: John Klostermann, Street/Sewer Maintenance Supervisor ~ L
Subject: Floodwalllmprovement Projects - Change Order # 2
Introduction
The purpose of this memorandum is to request your approval to change order #2 for the
Floodwalllmprovement Projects.
Discussion
Change order # 2 is for work associated with the retaining wall footing located at the
Bee Branch Floodwall Pumping Station. While excavating for the retaining wall footing
at the Bee Branch Pumping Station it was necessary to enlarge the designed footing to
protect the existing concrete wall. The change order also reflects extra cost to the
contractor to jackhammer out poured concrete to expose the existing electrical conduit
not located on the plans. I have reviewed the change order as submitted with Charles
Cate of IIW and we both feel that the change order is fair and just.
Action Required
I am requesting that you review change order #2 and recommend payment.
