Whereas, Homelessness and hunger is a devastating experience causing disruption in families, loss
of income and personal dignity. No person in Dubuque should be stigmatized,
discriminated against or isolated because they are hungry or homeless; and
Whereas, multiple local organizations, government agencies, churches, and religious organizations
compassionately respond to the needs of those experiencing hunger and homelessness
with food, clothing, shelter, services and permanent housing. The Homeless Advisory
Council meets regularly to collaborate and coordinate services; and
Whereas, Dubuque joins many other communities and college campuses across the United States
in observing "Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Month." In recognition of this month,
Project Concern has planned events to bring a greater awareness of homelessness that
is in our neighborhoods. Planned events include:
Tuesday, November 5t ", 2013 from 5:30 -8:30 p.m., Operation: New View CAA and Dubuque Circles
Initiative invite you to participate in a Poverty Simulation. Walk in the shoes of someone in poverty.
Tuesday, November 12t ", 2013, from 7:00- 8:30 p.m., Project Concern, The Dubuque Rescue Mission and
Loras College students will be hosting "Faces of Homelessness" at Loras College in the Alumni Center, 4th
floor ballroom. The program will feature one current and one past client of Project Concern, as well as a
Question and Answer session with a panel of previous homeless clients and service providers.
Project Concern's "30 days of Giving" campaign shows 30 ways a person can help advocate, support
and /or volunteer for agencies serving the homeless population. Contact Project Concern for ways to give.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, ON BEHALF OF THE
CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF
NOVEMBER, 2013 AS
"HUNGER AND HOMELESNESS AWARENESS MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and
