MEMORANDUM
November 13, 2006
TO: Michael Van Milligen, City Manager
FROM:
Laura Carstens, Planning Services Manager
j)5c~
SUBJECT: Designation of Star Brewery Drive
The purpose of this memo is to recommend the designation of Star Brewery Drive in the
Port of Dubuque.
Due to the adaptive reuse of the historic Star Brewery, the portion of vacated Fourth
Street Extension between Bell Street and the railroad tracks needs to be named to
provide a street address for the building and its tenants.
Building Services Manager Rich Russell has been contacted by Bob Smith of Stone Cliff
Winery about an address to use for printing his brochures and letterhead for the wine
tasting room he will open in the Star Brewery building.
Since this street has not been officially named or platted (Assistant City Engineer Bob
Schiesl is still coordinating final design), and since Stone Cliff Winery needs a street
address for their business operations, staff suggests that the City Council approve the
street name prior to platting the street. We can then let the formal platting and naming
proceed when staff has completed the street design, and Stone Cliff can proceed with
their business opening.
Staff recommends that the street be designated as Star Brewery Drive. E-911
Communications Manager Sandi Hutchcroft has reviewed this designation. The
Engineering Division has provided the enclosed exhibit to establish the location of the
roadway for mapping and addressing purposes.
I recommend approval of the designation of Star Brewery Drive in the Port of Dubuque
as shown on the enclosed exhibit.
