Background The HPC consists of one (1) resident from each of the five (5) designated historic districts and four (4) at large members. In the event that a vacancy occurs in a seat which requires that the appointee be a resident of the district and for which there is no application from a qualified resident, the City Council can appoint a temporary member. Upon appointment of a qualified resident to the vacancy, the temporary appointment terminates. Discussion Commissioner McDonell has admirably served as the resident member of the Jackson Park Historic District. He also currently serves as Chairperson for the Commission. Commissioner McDonell has moved outside of the boundaries of the Jackson Park Historic District creating a vacancy. The City Clerk's office will advertise the vacancy. Recommendation The HPC respectfully requests City Council appoint Commissioner Bob McDonell as the temporary member for the Jackson Park Historic Preservation District until such a time that a resident of the district applies and is appointed. A simple majority vote is needed for the City Council to approve the request. Respectfully submitted, Julie Schlarman, Vice- Chairperson Historic Preservation Commission cc Barry Lindahl, City Attorney Kevin Firnstahl, City Clerk F: \USERS \Djohnson \Council Items\ Historic Preservation Commission Temporary Membership
