Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Round 3 of the Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant Recommendations DATE: November 12, 2013 Dubuque band AI- America City 11111r 2007 • 2012 • 2013 In Fiscal Year 2013, the City Council approved $25,000 to fund a new Sustainable Dubuque Community Grant program. The intentions of the grant program as defined by the Sustainable Dubuque Collaboration are to demonstrate that anyone can be involved in the Sustainable Dubuque initiative; to reach out to a diverse set of community partners, including nonprofits, businesses, neighborhood associations and individuals; and track measurable impact in the community. Twenty -two applications have been funded to date. There is a remaining balance of $11,750 for Fiscal Year 2014. Thirteen applications were received for the third round of funding, due November 1. Previously - successful applicants will not be eligible for additional funding for one year following their award. Many applications addressed multiple sustainability principles and /or pillars. Application requests totaled $29,164. Sustainable Community Coordinator Cori Burbach and the Application Review Committee recommend funding the following grant applications: Project /Organization Amount Northeast Iowa Community College Outdoor Learning Lab Educational Signage $1,500 DubuqueFest Fine Arts Festival & Educational Programing 2014 $2,183 Clarke University pro bono Geriatric Wellness Program $2,180 University of Dubuque Library Water Bottle Filler $635 FIDO Market Manners program @ Dubuque Farmers Market $1,525 TOTAL $8,023 Members of the Sustainable Dubuque Collaboration will work with grantees to improve the sustainability of these events and initiatives, and work with those who were not funded to make additional projects happen through partnerships whenever possible. A balance of $3,727 will remain for the next round of community grants, which will be due February 1, 2014. I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council approval.
