Minutes_Safe Community Advisory Committee 11 13 13Masterpiece on the Mississippi MINUTES CITY OF DUBUQUE SAFE COMMUNITY ADVISORY COMMITTEE REGULAR SESSION 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 13, 2013 Carnegie -Stout Public Library Board Room Dubuque 1 All- Amedea City 1 1 1 1 1 . ! 2007 • 2012 • 2013 Committee Members Present: Chair Doug Stillings; Committee Members, Ann Ernst, Susan Stork, Shaunel Evans, Anthony Allen, Adrienne Scott Committee Members Absent: Mary Rae Bragg, Chris Welch Staff Members Present: Kelly Larson, Jerelyn O'Connor, Crenna Brumwell CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Chair Doug Stillings at 6:10 p.m. CERTIFICATE OF COMPLIANCE WITH IOWA OPEN MEETINGS LAW APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Ann Ernst asked that the minutes of September 11, 2013 be amended to include that Gary Carner, a local contractor, attended the September 11+h meeting as a private citizen and commented that he was very supportive of the actions and City's efforts to improve the quality of life in the downtown area. Sue Stork moved to approve the September 11, 2013 meeting minutes as amended. Seconded by Ann Ernst. All in favor. Let the minutes show that the actual minutes approved were the September 11, 2013 minutes and not the August 14, 2013 minutes as erroneously indicated on the agenda. ACTION ITEMS Update on Letter to the Dubuque Community School District Doug Stillings apologized that he did not get the letter sent out. He will be communicating to them that we applaud their efforts in anti - bullying and other programs they are offering to reduce violence and to make the community a safer place. If the committee is re- empanelled by the City Council, he will extend an invitation to attend a future meeting. "I'm A Dubuque" Series Update No update. Other Business No other Committee business Decide Continuation of the Committee General discussion on whether or not the committee should continue for 2014. Doug Stillings reminded members that their role is to monitor the progress made on the Minutes ® Safe Community Advisory Committee November, 13, 2013 Page 2 recommendations brought to the City Council by the original Safe Community Task Force. The Chair moved the Items from Staff to this time on the agenda. Staff reviewed the progress to date on recommendations. Ann Ernst asked that the minutes reflect'appreciation for city staff in carrying out these recommendations and the assistance provided to the committee. After discussion, the committee decided not to ask the City Council to continue beyond the sunset date, as the consensus of the group is that the sixty recommendations have either been met, are in progress, or there were valid reasons they could not be implemented. The committee members expressed their willingness to be available in the future should a need arise. Items for Next Meeting No further meetings.
