Minutes Library Update 11 16 06 Carnegie-Stout Public Library Librmy Board of Trustees Update From the Meeting of' November 16,2006 · The Library Board approved hiring Durrant Group (Dubuque) to be the Construction Management firm for the renovation project. Next steps in the Renovation Project include setting up the Pre-Capital Campaign Task Forces which will work together over the next 2 - 3 months to define a case statement, leadership, prospect development, and marketing/creation of awareness of the project. · The final design for the van graphics will be approved on November 17. It will take approximately two weeks after that time to transfer the design to a digital image for vinyl and applied. Book drop service began at Eleanor Roosevelt Middle School on Monday, November 11. · The City and Greg Stover reached an agreement on the cost of the parking lot located at 12th and Bluff Streets. Pending final City Council approval, the real- estate transaction will be closed on December I. The Director will work with City staff on the details of which spaces will be reserved and which will be metered. The lot will be repaved, striped, and include a light and security camera. The camera will be located in the Library. · The operating budget and improvement package budget hearing for the Library is scheduled with the City Manager and Budget Director for Friday, November 17. In order of preference the Improvement Packages are: 80 additional Library Clerk hours for Adult Services, 25 hours a week in Library Clerk hours for Tech Services, 30 hours a week part-time professional Librarian for Adult Services, JO hours a week in Library Clerk hours for Youth Services, Adult Programming, Young Adult Materials increase, DVD collection increase in budget, graphic novels collection increase in budget, movie licensing, funding for Y A programs, and funding for another year of Tutor.com · Trends in increased circulation noticed earlier in the year continue with circulations by Dubuque residents up 4 percent for the month of October,. Overall circulations are down 4 percent attributed to people from contracting communities, out of state, and open access use. Year to date circulation growth is up 2 percent. Nearly 48 new library cards are issued, on average, every day, seven days a week. Visits are up II percent in October and 9 percent year to date. · Electronic access continues a growth trend as well. FirstSearch database use has increased 98 percent over the first quarter of last year, Heritage Quest a remarkable growth of 160 percent over the first quarter of last year. Newsbank is up 56 percent. Web site visitors grew 23 percent. During this time, Ebsco use has declined significantly. It is possible the company has altered the method of tracking use; this must be checked. . Expenditures are at 37 percent while 33 percent of the fiscal year has lapsed. This is attributed to annual payment of insurance and maintenance contracts in the first part of the fiscal year. Revenue is at 24 percent. . Interviews will begin soon for a Library Assistant in Circulation. An advertisement will also be forthcoming for a part-time position of "Campaign Coordinator. " . The Board approved the Library's after hours Holiday Reception for staff on December I. The Board will host a holiday reception for staff and volunteers on Thursday, December 14 prior to their board meeting, from 3:00 - 4:30.
