Narrative Description: This is a broad two-story gable front frame residence plan (18.6x30, 555 square feet per level) with a single-story rear addition (14.6x14) and south-facing recessed side porch. The foundation is of stone and the exterio is stuccoed. There are seven rooms in the plan (three bedrooms). The full-width hip roof front porch has been closed in. A rear porch was removed in 1997. The adjacent house to the north at 2108 Kniest was demolished in 1985 and the present 24 feet by 30 feet two-car garage was built in 1995. The Assessor dates this building to +1- 1885. The house was present as of 1891. The 1889 Perspective Map of the City of Dubuque shows no houses on this part of Kniest, implying rapid building up between 1889 and 1891.
