Narrative Description: No assessor's card was found. This is a broad, tall two-story gable front frame residence with a recessed gallery porch in the southeast corner. There are twin attic windows and the entryway is on the left-hand side of the facade. The square hip roof entry porch retains its original turned posts but the transom has been sealed. The lower story has aluminum siding while the upper level has asbestos siding. The windows were likely replaced. This is one of a few area houses with recessed porches/staircases in the rear part of the plan. There are two brick chimneys, both on the ridgeline, center of plan and at the east end. The rectangular core measures 32 feet in width by 48 feet in depth, with a recessed southeast corner porch (16 feet long, 8 feet wide) intruding into that core form. The front porch measures 6 feet wide and five deep deep. A detached two-car garage dates to 1960. Building Permit/Alteration Record Date Owner Contractor Description/value 1960 New 21 feet by 30 feet garage (assessor) June 19, 1993 Kris Carter Re-roof, $1,700 August 30, 1999 Doug Carter Vinyl siding $4,880 8. Narrative Statement of Significance: The house was not present as of 1891 although there was a story-and-a-half residence set back on this lot within the partial right-ow-way of Troy Street. This cottage might have been moved and enlarged as the present house, but the present two-story plan was here by 1909. Historical addresses were 70 Kniest as of 1891 and 92 Kniest by 1908-09.
