Narrative Description: This story-and-a-half brick cottage is set back along the alley behind 507 and 509 Rhomberg. The plan has a stone foundation, segmental arch brick window arches, an early 20`h century porch and a new side dormer. The entrance is on the west gable end. The new garage, located west of and in front of the cottage, has a faux brick exterior. The rectangular core plan measures 22 feet in width by 32 feet in depth. The west/front porch measures 20 feet in width by 7 feet in depth. A north corner entry porch (six feet square) is located at the northeast corner. An enclosed porch (12 feet long, 4 feet wide) extends from the southeast corner to the east. North of this porch is an addition (24 feet in width, 12 feet long) that links the two porches. It fronts west onto Kniest Street but it is set way back on the lot and likely at first fronted to Rhomberg Avenue to the south. The yard to the south remains open but likely belongs to 501 Rhomberg Avenue. owner says this cottage was built by Wingert Sr. The cottage was present as of 1891. The historic address is 68 Kniest (1891) and 80 Kniest (1909).
