Proclamation Martin Luther KingPROCLAMATION
WHEREAS,
on Sunday, January 20, 2002 our community will celebrate the
birthday of Martin Luther King, Jr. beginning with a gathering
at Jackson Park at I P.M.and a walk to St. Patrick's School for
an address by Jonathan Narcisse and the NAACP Contest
Awards; and
WHEREAS,
on Monday, January 21st, the Tenth Annual Martin Luther
King, Jr. Birthday Breakfast will be held at the Loras College
Alumni Center at 7:30 A.M. with the theme, "Dubuque, Dr.
King's Neighborhood," and
WHEREAS,
Everyone can be great because everyone can serve. You only
need a heart full of grace .... A soul generated by love .... And
hands willing to help; and
WHEREAS,
the non-violent example of leadership set by Dr. King is
worthy of emulation and commemoration by residents of this
community and all Americans; and
WHEREAS,
Martin Luther King, Jr. left to us a commitment to justice as
an unfinished Agenda for the 21st century; and
WHEREAS,
we who have been the inheritors and witnesses of this dream
have a responsibility to keep it alive for generations yet to
come.
NOW THEREFORE, I, TERRANCE M. DUGGAN, MAYOR OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM SUNDAY, JANUARY
20, 2002 AS DAYS OF GREAT CELEBRATION IN HONOR OF MARTIN
LUTHER KING, JR. I URGE ALL CITIZENS TO JOIN IN KEEPING HIS
DREAM ALIVE BY JOINING IN THE CELEBRATIONS OF JANUARY 20
& 21, 2002.
