Minutes Arts Commission 2 28 06MINUTES ARTS AND CULTURAL AFFAIRS ADVISORY COMMISSION Tuesday, November 28, 2006, 4:30 p.m. Board Room, Carnegie Stout Public Library 360 W. 11th, Dubuque, Iowa Commissioners present: Sue Riedel, Geri Shafer, Ellen Henkels, Louise Kames, Paul Kohl, Amy Weber. Staff Present: Jerelyn O'Connor, Kevin Firnstahl Call to Order /Certification of Compliance 4:36 p.m Approval of Minutes from October 23, 2006. Motion to approve as corrected by Kohl, Second by Henkels, passed 6-0. NEW BUSINESS Report on Changing Data/Activity within Dubuque Cultural Corridor: Dan Lobianco. Postponed. OLD BUSINESS Strategic Plan -Status Report on Progress (Commissioners and Staff) Chairperson Riedel asked for any changes to the report. Shafer shared a copy of the letter sent on behalf of the Commission to Dubuque Cultural Alliance members describing the impact of arts and culture on the Dubuque Community asking members to go online to register for Stand Up and be Counted. Shafer suggested partnering with the Chamber to assist in identifying creative industries. The first step is having the Cultural Alliance distribute the letter via their a-mail list. O'Connor will forward information to the Commission about the next Cultural Alliance meeting. Kames and Wahlert reports tabled to January meeting. Information Sharing Letter from Long Range Planning Commission 2007 Meeting Schedule reviewed Grants will be reviewed at May 22 (operational) and June (Special Projects) meetings Budget Public Hearing Schedule reviewed Arts budget will be reviewed as part of the City Manager's Office budget. Letter from Dubuque Symphony Orchestra Thank you letter to City Manager in appreciation of project funding Items from Commission Chairperson Riedel noted that Executive Director of the Iowa Arts Council Anita Walker has had to re-apply to the Governor-Elect Culver and encouraged Commissioners to write the Governor in support of her reappointment. Kames reported on the Dubuque Cultural Alliance meeting. O'Connor reported that the Long Range Planning Commission incorporated some of the Arts Commission's comments into their revisions. Paul Kohl will be on sabbatical until the May meeting. Next meeting: Tuesday, January 23, 2007, at 4:30 p.m. Motion to adjourn by Weber, Second by Shafer, passed 6-0.
