Public Works Director Don Vogt is recommending the purchase of a vehicle from Mike
Finnin Ford for $31,360 to replace an 11,000 GVW dump truck.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

SUBJECT: Purchase of Replacement Dump Truck
INTRODUCTION
The purposes of this memorandum are to provide information and request your
approval of the purchase of a new 11,000 GVW dump truck to replace #2702.
BACKGROUND
The Public Works Department's approved FY07 budget contains an appropriation of
$36,800 for the purchase of a replacement for #2702, a small dump truck used year
round by the sewer maintenance crews. Bid proposals were recently solicited, and two
were subsequently received.
DISCUSSION
The attached memorandum from Street and Sewer Maintenance Supervisor John
Klostermann recommends that the lowest bid, from Finnin Ford, be accepted. A
tabulation of the two bids received is also attached.
ACTION STEP
I agree with John's recommendation and request your approval of same. If you do
concur with our recommendation, (request that the truck purchase be approved by
resolution by the City Council at its February 20th meeting.

SUBJECT: Truck Replacement Recommendation - 61054300-71314
The Fiscal Year 2007 Sanitary Sewer Maintenance Activity budget (61054300)
provides funds ($36,800) for the replacement of one 11,000 GVW dump truck.
Two sealed bids were received and opened for this unit on Tuesday January 23,
2007.
The lowest bid received was from Mike Finnin Ford for $31,360 which is $5,440
under our approved budget. The other bid received was from Bird Chevrolet for
$35,662. I have attached a complete bid summary for your review. It is my
recommendation to award this bid to Mike Finnin Ford for providing the lowest
bid for a unit that meets our specifications.

RESOLUTION APPROVING THE PURCHASE OF A DUMP TRUCK
TO REPLACE #2702
Whereas, the City Manager recommends the purchase of a dump truck from
Finnin Ford, for a purchase price of $36,800.00, to replace #2702;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
Section 1. The purchase of a dump truck from Finnin Ford for a purchase
price of $36,800.00 is hereby approved.
