ROLE AND FUNCTIONS OF THE
COLLEGE'S BOARD OF ADVISORS
Role To advise and assist the College of Public Health in all aspects of its work,
including:
• curriculum and degree programs;
• research programs and priorities;
• outreach and service programs;
• fund-raising from external sources; and
• other key strategic issues.
Functions 1. Serve as a vehicle for two-way communications between the College and:
- Leaders in business and labor, government, health care,
and voluntary associations.
- Iowa State University, University of Northern Iowa, and
Iowa's community colleges.
2. Provide a continuing source of information and insights regarding the
health care environment and potential challenges and opportunities for
the College and its programs; that is, serve as an "early warning system"
for the College.
3. Advise and assist the College in shaping its goals, strategies, and
priorities.
4. Help the College of Public Health to develop a distinct identity among
the nation's schools of pubic health and build support among key
constituencies for its programs in education, research, and community
service.
5. Advise and assist the College in assessing its programs and progress
in relation to established goals, priorities, and criteria.
Meetings The Board will meet twice each year, once in October and once in April.
Through conference calls and small work groups, members of the Board
will be invited to provide advice and assistance to the College between
these meetings.
