Dear Mayor Buol,
RECEIVED
14 APR 25 A1111: 16
City Clerk's Office
Dubuque, IA
On behalf of Riverview Center's board of directors, staff, the clients we serve,
and our entire community, I would like to thank you and the City of Dubuque
for the Purchase of Services grant in the amount of $5,635 to support a Sexual
Assault Therapist position to change our community's shared values so that
sexual and domestic violence against the people we love is no longer
acceptable.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, 117,222 women and 62,754 men
in the 16 counties we serve in Iowa and Illinois will be sexually abused, and
37.7% of women and 25.7% of men in the 2 Illinois counties we serve will be
domestically abused, including over 60,000 children who will be abused by age
12. We are the only organization in our service area providing free services for
survivors of sexual assault, and domestic violence services in our 2 IL counties.
For the past 22 years, we have been offering free services that focus on the
healing and justice for survivors of violence in the tri-state area. Our services
help to prevent violence and address the needs of survivors of violence so they
and their families can heal from the trauma to lead healthy and productive lives.
Our crisis intervention -trained staff/volunteers respond to crisis calls, police
stations, and emergency rooms 24 -hours a day to ensure survivors receive
comprehensive intervention support as soon as they reach out for services. Our
advocates explain all medical and legal options so the survivor can decide what
action to pursue. Our trauma -focused therapists have advanced training in
multiple therapy approaches, and our advocates provide peer counseling in
individual and group settings so survivors can custom -tailor their counseling
plan to best meet their needs and goals. To prevent violence before it starts,
Riverview's violence prevention educators provide programming for students,
teachers, coaches, parents and others to create a community free from violence.
Thank you for your commitment to our community's health and well-being.
With
eciation,
