The purpose of this memorandum is to inform you of the AmeriCorps Partners in
Learning member, Becca Johnson who was recently inducted into the State of Iowa
Volunteer Hall of Fame.
DISCUSSION
The Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame was established in 1989 by the Governor's office for
Volunteerism to honor Iowans who have made extraordinary donations of volunteer
service to their communities. Through the Iowa Volunteer Hall of Fame, the State of
Iowa recognized outstanding Iowans who have freely given their precious time and
talent in countless ways to benefit others. Being inducted into the Iowa Volunteer Hall
of Fame is the most prestigious state -level honor volunteers can received.
Becca Johnson was nominated and selected for this award under the National Service
Category. She was recognized during a special ceremony held in the State Capital
Building on Tuesday, April 8th and her name was engraved on the Volunteer Hall of
Fame plaque on permanent display in the State Historical Museum.
Becca has been an AmeriCorps member with the AmeriCorps Partners in Learning
Program since 2011, she is serving her fourth and final term which will end in August
2014. By the time she is done Becca will have provided 3000 hours of service to our
community. Over the course of her terms she has provided academic mentoring to 300
elementary children and brought summer reading programs to more than 1500 children.
Becca is a leader within the AmeriCorps program and is always willing to offer talents
and expertise to others; she is an outstanding member who leads with her heart.
