APPROVE Mr. Spence explained that staff has been looking for ways to increase revenue
REVISIONS TO
because the revenue budget projections did not look very good for this year.
GOLF
Staff is asking to: increase the 9-hole cart rental rate from $14.50 to $15.50
?

and the 18-hole rate from $23 to $24; eliminate the 2 for 1, 10:00 a.m. to

VOTE:
2:00 p.m. discount that was initiated last season. It was initiated because the
course had not signed up to be part of the Cancer Card. There was not
enough increase in players at the discounted rate to offset the free rounds, and
in 2007 the course is on the Cancer, Lung and PGA cards.
Staff is also asking for approval to use the rain check program that is available
with the new software system. This system gives everyone a refund based on
how many holes they play and eliminates a lot of argument with the pro shop.
Some ideas from commissioners for increasing revenue included: offer
?
$3.00 pitchers of beer during a certain time period; have free peanuts or
?
something on the tables to draw people to the snack bar; offer a Sunday
?
night couples league; promote the course more.
?
It was moved by Harjehausen, seconded by Lyness, to approve the proposed
$1.00 increase in cart rental, eliminate the 2 for 1 special discount, and use the
rain check program available with the software system. The motion passed
unanimously.
PARK DIVISION Park Division Manager Bob Fritsch updated commissioners:
REPORT:
Employees have been very busy with snow removal but have kept up well
?
and did not have any complaints. Next week they will start hand measuring
?
park turf areas and assigning particular mowers for that area, as part of the
effort to redistribute jobs to be more efficient. Our retired volunteer has been
?
helping at the greenhouse and has the seedlings in. Washington Middle
?
School will have 200 students doing a volunteer project and working with the
park crews for a morning in March. Crews are generally getting ready for
?
spring.
RECREATION A local chiropractor (Dr. Greg Crowley) from Asbury Family Chiropractic
?
DIVISION
approached the department about offering golf fitness classes at Bunker Hill in
REPORT:
March. He will be teaching Golf Flexology and Conditioning, Basic Golf Fitness
and Advanced Fitness, if enough registrations are received. Family fitness
?
classes are being offered at Prescott School. Valentine Dance on February
?
16th had 74 participants. Swim lessons have started for winter/spring
?
session. After school volleyball program at Prescott had 0 registrations until
?
a teacher offered to coach if the program was offered at no cost to participants,
then 20 children registered. The same was done at Lincoln School. It may
cost $2,000 out of the children’s budget, or we may use CD Target money if
any funds remain. SOME OF THE NEW ITEMS APPROVED IN THE
?
BUDGET PROCESS, INCLUDE: speed slide at Sutton Pool; funding to
??
mail the fall and winter/spring brochures; after school program at Marshall
?
and Lincoln; funding for 2 teen pool parties.

Meeting location:
Commissioner Hoffmann asked if the meeting location
OTHER:
could be moved from the snack bar once the course opens in March, possibly
to Allison-Henderson, Comiskey or Slattery Center (summer months).
Commissioner Lyness asked about scheduling at different park facilities during
the summer/fall months, as we have done in the past.
Donation from Mozena family:
Mr. Spence was approached by the Mozena
family to donate a substantial amount of money to replace the Tri-State View
Pavilion in Eagle Point Park, in memory of his sister. Mr. Spence explained
that the design they want will probably cost around $600,000 and they will
donate $250,000. They want the project done as soon as possible and want
the City to cover any costs over the donation. The proposal is scheduled to go
before the City Council.
Committee to meet about golf concerns:
Commissioner Duggan proposed
a committee be established to meet once a month about concerns regarding
the golf course, and act as a liaison for the golfers. Discussion was held on
when to start, how often to meet, committee only or open to anyone, et cetera.
It was decided to start out with once per month meetings at 5:00 p.m., on the
first Monday of the month, beginning April 2nd. The meeting would be open to
anyone interested in attending.
ADJOURN; It was moved by Duggan, seconded by Blocklinger, that the meeting be
