MEMORANDUM
March 15, 2007
TO: The Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: Michael C. Van Milligen, City Manager
SUBJECT: Federal Building Renovation Project
CIP 1001841
Sealed bids were received for the Federal Building Renovation Project. City Engineer
Gus Psihoyos recommends award of the contract to the low bidder, Tricon General
Construction, in the amount of $1,685,200, which is the base bid in the amount of
$1,591,000 and Alternates 1 through 4 in the amount of $94,200. It is also
recommended that the contingency be increased from 10% to 15% due to the
unforeseen work requirements that may be discovered when working in an old building.
While this bid is favorable compared to the bid estimates, the total project costs, which
include project components outside the scope of this bid, is still $3,589,648.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.
