WHEREAS, people should feel safe to hold the hand of their significant other in public and safe to
walk in our community without hiding part of their identity; and
WHEREAS, Dubuque strives to offer a safe place free from taunting, bullying and intolerance; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque is a progressive and inclusive community, which celebrates culture
and heritage and supports effort to ensure that everyone has the ability to live in
conditions of dignity, respect, and peace; and
WHEREAS, the City of Dubuque advocates for the elimination of all forms of discrimination and
displays commitment to the equal treatment of all people; and
WHEREAS, this proclamation in and of itself sends a message of validation and acceptance to the
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender, or LGBT citizens of Dubuque and their families
as a part of our community.
NOW, THEREFORE, 1, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, ON BEHALF OF THE
CITY COUNCIL, STAFF AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM THE MONTH OF
JUNE, 2014 AS
"LGBT PRIDE MONTH"
IN THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, AND CALL UPON THE CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE TO
OBSERVE THIS MONTH WITH APPROPRIATE PROGRAMS, ACTIVITIES, AND CEREMONIES IN
RECOGNITION OF OUR CITY'S DIVERSITY
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto set my
hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of
Dubuque to be affixed this 2nd day of June, 2014.
