A special recognition ceremony and reception was held for recipients today at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls. The Governor's Volunteer Awards (GVA) program was created in 1982 and provides all Iowa nonprofit, charitable, and government organizations with an easy, cost-effective way to honor local volunteers with a prestigious state -level recognition award. Each year, regional award presentation ceremonies are held across the state to recognize hundreds of volunteers for their commitment, service, and time. Since 2010, Dalsing has served on the board of directors for Project Concern, a non-profit, social service agency whose primary mission is homelessness prevention and empowerment of low-income individuals and families, children, senior citizens, and people with disabilities. Dalsing assists Project Concern with guiding staff in programming and operational needs as well as ensuring financial stability of the agency, and also represents the agency at community events, speaking engagements, and fundraising endeavors. Since 1999, Corrigan has served on the board of directors for Dubuque County Early Childhood (DCEC), a non-profit organization that supports healthy and successful children. As part of her service to DCEC, Corrigan assists in strategic planning and promotion of activities that encourage early learning, health, and school readiness in children up to five years of age, such as preschool scholarships, family support programs, early health services, and grants/professional development for child care providers.
