Library Board of Trustees Update
From the Meeting of July 24, 2014
Present: Mike Willis, President; Jenny Weiss, Vice President; Trustees, John
Anderson -Bricker, Dan Boice, Paula Connors, and Jon Trotter.
Excused: Patty Poggemiller
• The Board held their annual meeting. Mike Willis was elected to lead the
board as President for another year, Jenny Weiss as Vice President, and
Dan Boice as Secretary. Willis appointed board members to various
committees:
- Relations Committee - Dan Boice and Patty Poggemiller
- Operations Committee - John Anderson -Bricker and Paula Connors
- Planning Committee - Jenny Weiss and Jon Trotter

Art Subcommittee - John Anderson -Bricker and Jenny Weiss
Library Foundation -- Paula Connors and Jon Trotter
• Fiscal year 2014 closed on June 30 at an estimated $83,000 under
budget.
• The number of check-outs was down 5 percent in FY14, largely due to a
reduction in Open Access (8.2 percent). Dubuque resident use decreased
1.2 percent, which is attributed to a reduction in the circulation of adult
print. Digital audiobook use increased 23 percent and e -Books increased
25 percent during FY14. Digital formats are not available to Open Access
borrowers without purchase ($75 - $175).
• Discussion was held regarding problems with the HVAC system that have
been ongoing since the equipment was installed. The Board directed
Henricks to follow up with city staff in an effort to advance a final remedy.
• The Circulation Policy was updated and approved. The Fines and Fees
policy will be reviewed in August.
• Marketing materials were shared at the meeting for the "Set Your Library
Card Free" campaign to promote our databases and digital collection.
