Dear Pat:
The National League of Citie (NLC) relies on a strong committee structure to develop municipal
policy and positions on issues before the United States Congress. To ensure that NLC policy
committees reflect all geographical interests, the executive director of each state munidpal league is
allotted a certain number of appointments to seats on each committee, The Iowa League of Cities
allocation is four seats on each of the seven policy committees.
On behalf of the Iowa League of Cities, I have appointed you to serve as one of Iowa's
rcpresentatives on the Public Safety and Crime Prevention Policy Committee. Policy committees
meet twice a year, once in conjunction with the NLC Congressional City Conference and again at the
NLC Congress of Cities. If yun plan to attend either one, or both, of these meetings, you may want to
check the date and time for your committee meeting.
It is likely thai NLC will provide materials on the committee somewhat in advance of the national
meetings, but typically you will not rccei~ it much earlier than a week or two prior to the mccting. If
you have questions about this appointment, do not hesitate to contact Andi Stewart or myself at the
League.
Sincerely
Thomas G. Bredeweg
Executive Director
