RE: PEG Capital Grant Expenditure Request
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable TV Tele-
Programming Commission to approve a request for funding from the Capital Grant for Access
Equipment and Facilities.
BACKGROUND
The Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities created by the cable franchise
agreement that went into effect on June 5, 2005, began FY07 with a balance of $199,630.
Subsequent interest payments and quarterly adjustments have added $34,050 this fiscal year.
Thus far in FY07, the City Council has approved $148,325 in requests; currently there is a
balance to be awarded of $82,313.
Last night the Commission recommended a grant of $31,200 for the following equipment for the
access studio at Mediacom:
• Afield package for the mobile production van which includes aslow-motion replay
system for sporting events, a portable audio mixer, shotgun microphones, and monitors.
• Equipment to facilitate the encoding process so completed productions can be placed on
the playback servers quicker and easier.
• Transport gear to enable real-time transmission of PEG productions to a video-on-
demand server in Des Moines.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
I respectfully request that the Commission's recommendation for this request be forwarded to
the City Council to receive, file, and approve. Thank you.
