The City Clerk's Office, City Hall, 50 W. 13th St., Dubuque, IA accepts application for any Board and/or Commission at any time, and that application stays active for one year from the date of receipt in the Clerk's Office. At the appropriate regularly scheduled council meeting, applications will be submitted to the City Council for their review and applicants are encouraged to address the Council stating their reasons for wanting to serve on this particular commission. Applicants will be advised when the application is being presented. Appointment to the Board or Commission will be made at a later meeting. Applicants will then be notified as to the outcome of the Council's action. If not appointed at that time, this application will be resubmitted, as needed, as long as the application is active (unless the applicant advises they are no longer interested) DATE: 1 MAY 2007 ADVISORY BOARD/COMMISSION APPLYING FOR: Arts Commission NAME: Cathy Goodman BUSINESS: big fish creative OCCUPATION: Advertising/Graphic Design HOME PHONE: 563.599.7775 ADDRESS: 505 English Lane, Dubuque, IA 52003 ADDRESS: 505 English Lane, Dubuque, IA 52003 POSITION WITH COMPANY: owner BUSINESS PHONE: 563.582.4109 EMAIL ADDRESS: cathyCa~bigfishcreative.biz EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION WHICH QUALIFIES YOU FOR THIS BOARD/COMMISSION: With my Masters in Communication and an undergrad in English/V1/riting and Speech Communication/ Public Relations with an Art Emphasis, I am very excited about the possibility of serving the Dubuque arts community as a member of the Arts Commission. It is my understanding the Commission focuses on new or existing programming in the areas of Public Art, Folk and Traditional Arts, Dance, Music, Culture, Opera, Visual Arts, Theater, Public Performance, Literature, and Projects from Individual Artists working with a 501 (c) (3) Organization. I have an interest in and/or proven track record in all of those areas. ART: I have been an artist and have sold my work via juried panels for Dubuquefest and Galena's Art in the Park. I have also been featured in exhibitions. For the past five years, I have donated original works of art to several charitable causes for fund-raising purposes. DANCE: While not the world's best dancer, as an adult, I have taken tap lessons in order to expand my performance capabilities (with a broken wrist, even-"shuffling off to Buffalo" presents its own set of challenges while sporting a cast!). MUSIC: I am awell-known singer in the Dubuque area, having appeared on the Grand and Five Flags Stages as well as at many festivals and churches in town. I am currently producing a Christmas musical review called Snowbiz: A Cool Yule to be performed at Galena's Historic Turner Hall where I am leading a group of five singers and six musicians. In addition, I am the contracted entertainment at the Ryan House for the Christmas season in which I present a half an hour review of my cd (A Very Geri Christmas and a Cathy New Year) which I produced, sang on, and designed. It was released in 2005. CULTURE/OPERA: Culture and Opera would be the areas that I possess the least amount of exposure due mainly to the limited venues in the area. I have been known to attend things like Greekfest, the Madrigal Dinner, and the Indian Dinner when schedules allow, however. (Yummy food and interesting displays of cultural activities, what's not to like?) VISUAL ARTS: My interest in Visual Arts is a passion that I get to participate in daily. As a graphic designer with over 20 years of experience, not a day goes by where I am not continuing my efforts to put forth information in an aesthetic way. I am an award-winning designer, and am constantly called upon as guest lecturer and judge for many areas in graphic design and marketing. I was part of the teaching faculty at the University of Dubuque in the Computer Graphics and Interactive Media Department before starting my advertising agency, big fish creative, in 2002. I will be teaching graphic arts as an adjunct at Loras College Fall 2007. THEATRE/LITERATURE: My theatre experience is vast, having had many lead and supporting roles with the Grand Opera House, Fly-By-Night, the Great Midwestern Educational Theatre Company, and others. With experience both on stage and behind the scenes, I have served on the operating Board of Directors for the Grand Opera House and the Board of Directors for the Great Midwestern Educational Theatre Company. I play an ongoing role of Catherine Ryan at the Ryan House as part of the Victorian Progressive Dinners, and just recently retired my ongoing role of Victoria with the Die Laughing Players. In addition I am a member of the Halls of Fame for both the Grand Opera House and the Loras Players in Dubuque. Finally, I have performed in many different arenas in the Dubuque area and am a published author. I love the arts. If appointed to the Arts Commission, I would be proud to serve the Dubuque Arts and Dubuque Artists as this type of an ambassador. Thank your for your consideration. WHAT CONTRIBUTIONS CAN YOU MAKE OR STATE REASON FOR APPLYING: I am applying to the Arts Commission in an effort to continue my ongoing passion and support for the Arts. I bring a unique perspective to the Commission due to my vast experience and exposure in many different areas of the arts.
