The Dubuque CVB had a booth there and we were well received. Our Dubuque Booth won Best of Show for our construction themed display. The Grand River Center, Midway Hotel and the Holiday Inn attended with Keith Rahe from the CVB. Approximately 78 leads were generated and 14 of them were hot leads. That is a great response based on what other vendors experienced and how we have done in the past. A bid was submitted as follow up from a state lead to Microsoft for their North Central Conference by the Dubuque CVB. 7 States are bidding for this fall conference of 300 Microsoft representatives. We submitted a very professional proposal in a computer case with the theme "Where History Meets High Tech." Included in the proposal was an in-depth proposal with a DVD player that showcased our video along with some unique options for their offsite team building session including: Four Mounds and Field of Dreams as well as a downtown treasure hunt with GPS tracking devices. Dubuque wilt host a number of larger groups this year. NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships were held in March, Iowa Christmas Tree Growers 300, Iowa Firemen's Association 350, Midwest Gang Investigators 700, The Iowa Square Dancers 1,000, Iowa League of Cities 800, Iowa Tourism Conference 500, National Walnut Council 700, is just a few examples. Regional Tourism Efforts Dubuque hosted the first annual Tri-State Tourism Conference and it was very successful. • 50 Tourism officials attended the one day session. • The conference netted $4,200 • 4 sponsors were secured • Web Marketing, Hospitality Training, Festivals 101, International Marketing and Eco -tourism seminars were all very informative. International Tours are being developed in cooperation with our Tri-State partners for promotion and sale oversees in Germany, England, Japan, China and India. The US Dept of Commerce is taking these tour packages and selling/promoting them in these markets for us. Tuesday mornings have been designated by tourism representatives from the Dubuque CVB, City of Galena and Platteville Chamber as "media mornings. Each Tuesday we meet with a different member of the media and tell the story of regional tourism marketing. This has resulted in 2 front page headline articles and one tri-state section article in the TH and live radio interviews with Queen B radio on April 24tH Hospitality Committee The Hospitality Committee is planning some exciting things for this coming fiscal year and this coming Month. During May, National Tourism Month, the committee and CVB staff will be arranging for the delivery of red carnations to all of our tourism businesses with hand written thank you notes to these businesses. The message will emphasis the important role they play in creating a great visitor experience and it will highlight the impact of travel to the Dubuque area. • The Committee will be developing a new program called the "Hospitality • Patrol." This program will enlist volunteers to assist with the dissemination of information into the community. Rather than waiting for visitors to find the Welcome Center, this program will be an outreach to find and assist visitors • where they are. Volunteers will be uniformed and will be assigned to particular businesses and areas where there is heavy visitor traffic. This • program wilt not only be local to Dubuque but will attempt to include Platteville and Galena in an effort to cross market our communities. • America's River Festival ~ June 8-10, 2007 • The plans for this year's festival are well underway. Randy Travis and the Doobie Brothers will be this year's headline entertainment in the Port of Dubuque. Stihl Timber Sports with ESPN, Dock Dogs, NASCAR displays, hot air • balloons, kid's entertainment and food vendors will create a fun and active event site in the Port this year. New this year will be on line ticket sales • beginning May 7th for the musical entertainers. Festival entry is free. Iowa Welcome Center The Gift Shop at the Welcome Center will soon be on line and able to take • purchases on line. This will not only be great for visitors but for local businesses and residents that might be looking for the perfect Dubuque gift for • a guest to our community. HARVESTFI~GOLF CLUB Rhodes Though it only opened in 2000, the Harvester has garnered a number of national accolades, including two consecutive recent rankings in Golf Digest s list of "America's 100 Greatest Public Courses." Located in Rhodes (just a few miles southwest of Marshalltown), the 7,340- yard course was designed by Keith Foster. It features a distinctly old-school atmosphere, with a natural feel to its bunkers and greens, taking full advantage of the rolling Iowa landscape. X79. 641-227-4653. Because he liked castles, Godbersen built his company's buildings in their likeness. So it's only right that the 3,195-yard, nine-hole city course gets the King Arthur treatment.
