Dear Council Members,
I am writing in regards to the above referenced issue.
I believe sidewalks are greatly needed on JFK between
Asbury and the Northwest Arterial. Some of the land
has sidewalks but it does not follow the entire road.
JFK is too busy of a street to not have these
sidewalks.
I attended Eisenhower in my elementary years and
remember how difficult it was to walk to and from
school because of the unevenness of the ground due to
lack of sidewalks. That was 17 years ago. These
sidewalks are long overdue.
My daughter now attends Eisenhower and should have the
ability to walk to and from school and not have to
worry about losing her balance and fall in the street.
It is a safety hazard on one of the busiest streets
in Dubuque.
Also there are several children in low incoming
housing in the area who deserve to be able to walk to
school safely on both sides of JFK. Theses children
already come from situations where they are
under-privileged. For some going to school is what
they look forward to everyday. This is suppose to be
their way out to self-sufficiency. It is our job to
make sure our children are safe and this is one step
towards that.
Thank you,
Ann Cook
