WHEREAS, The heritage of the City of Dubuque continues to reflect its 18 and 19
Century Irish roots of friendship, freedom of religion and faith, and
industriousness; and
WHEREAS, Hugh, Liz and Scotty Carlin have actively opened their home to over 400
Dubuque students from Clarke College, Loras College, and the University
of Dubuque and Dubuque residents during the past eight years, sharing
their proud Donegal heritage, music and local traditions; and
WHEREAS, Hugh, Liz and Scotty Carlin have, through their Irish traditions, have
created and continue to create and enjoy long-lasting friendships; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Meenaleck in County Donegal, Ireland, where Hugh, Liz and
Scotty Carlin reside, by hosting and receiving Dubuque visitors for 8 years,
has extended itself by warmly welcoming and entertaining City of Dubuque
residents in the friendly homes of Donegal.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA, ON
BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, CITY STAFF, AND CITIZENS OF THIS AREA
GRACIOUSLY WELCOME HUGH, LIZ AND SCOTTY CARLIN FROM MEENALECK, IN
COUNTY DONEGAL, IRELAND. WE ARE HONORED THAT THESE THREE VISITORS
FROM IRELAND, AFTER EIGHT YEARS OF HOSTING OUR RESIDENTS HAVE CHOSEN
DUBUQUE, IOWA, AS THEIR DESTINATION. WE KNOW THAT THE MANY FAMILIES
YOU HAVE BEEN VISITING IN YOUR ONE-WEEK SOJOURN TO OUR CITY WILL
RECIPROCATE YOUR WARM IRISH WELCOME WITH A TRADITIONAL DUBUQUE-
STYLE WELCOME. MAY THE JOYOUS, INTERESTING FRIENDSHIPS STARTED YEARS
AGO CONTINUE WITH THIS VISIT AND LAST THROUGHOUT MANY, MANY YEARS.
