Minutes Electrical Board 5 29 07;, MINUTES OF MEETING ELECTRICAL CODE BOARD DATE: Tuesday, 29 May. 2007 TIME: 4:10 P.M. LOCATION: City Hall, Conference Rm. A CHAIR: Jim Dixon. PRESENT: Ron Mueller, Bob Schmidt, Paul Uhlrich, Jim Dixon, Dan Hamel. ABSENT: Kevin Pfohl, Elaine Reiss. STAFF: Steve Neyens. MEDIA: None OTHERS: Harry L. Watson. Jim Dixon called the meeting to order at 4:10 P.M. Dan Hamel moved to dispense with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting and to accept them as typed. Bob Schmidt seconded. Vote was unanimous in favor of motion. The board reviewed the test scores and applications of the following applicant: Harry L. Watson. Bob Schmidt moved to accept all test scores and applications. Dan Hamel seconded. Vote was unanimous in favor of motion. The board than interviewed the following applicant and results are as follows: Bob Schmidt moved to approve and issue a new license for Harry L. Watson. Dan Hamel seconded. Motion passed unanimously. Mr. Watson plans to activate his license in about 30 days. Correspondence report from Staff: Neyens made the board aware that House File 897 was signed into law by the governor on Friday May 25th. And read the .press release from the governor's office, it read as follows: This bill establishes statewide licensure and certification of electricians and installers, providing for inspections, establishing fees and providing penalties. The new statewide licensure system supplements current licensure of electricians on a city-by-city basis, permitting electricians to practice on a statewide, as well as local, basis. The bill provides for the creation of an 11 member electrical examining board within the state fire marshal division of the department of public safety. The bill creates an electrician and installer licensing and inspection fund in the state treasury as a separate fund under the control of the board. The bill provides that all licensing, registration, examination, renewal, and inspection fees deposited or paid into the fund are appropriated and made available to the board that the balance shall not revert to the general fund, and that expenditures from the fund shall be approved solely by the board in consultation with the state fire marshal. The bill also provides for an appeal process, and provides suspension, revocation, reprimand, and penalty provisions. Provisions of the bill relating primarily to definitions, the establishment of the electrician examining board, and notification of the fire extinguishing system contractor's advisory board to include alarm system contractors and installers, take effect upon enactment. Provisions relating primarily to establishing the various categories of licensure to take effect January 1, 2008. Provisions relating primarily to inspections take effect January 1, 2009.
