Dear Mayor Buel and City Council Members,
The Colts annual Music on the March is scheduled for Thursday, July 26 this year
and our "preview show" Music on the March 2 is scheduled for Friday, July 6.
Music on the March on July 26 will include the current Drum Corps Internationai
champion the Cavaliers, plus for the first time the perennial national finalists Spirit
from JSU, Alabama will join us. The Colts and the Cadets will appear in competition
as will several other corps.
Music on the March 2 is hosted by the Colt Cadets and this year includes corps from
Tennessee, Ontario, Texas and several others.
Dubuque is the only city in the country that has the privilege of hosting two separate
competitions and the Colts are one of only three world-class corps in the entire activity
to also sponsor a local training corps.
We respectfully request a proclamation acknowledging these events, particularly Music
on the March. Since 1992 this show has attracted visitors to Dubuque from four
foreign countries and 48 of 50 states and brings 2,200 or more people to Dalzell field
every year. Music on the March II continues to grow, and we estimate a crowd of
around 500 for that show.
A further request is suspension of the residential parking rules around Senior High
School for both shows from 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. and the suspension of any noise
ordinances until 11 p.m. both nights.
