Sealed bids were received for the Kaufmann Alley Storm Sewer Construction Project.
City Engineer Gus Psihoyos is recommending award to the low bidder, Drew Cook &
Sons Excavating, in the amount of $23,394.25.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolution authorizes the award of the construction contract for the Kaufmann
Alley Storm Sewer Construction Project.
DISCUSSION
The Kaufmann Alley Storm Sewer Construction Project entails the construction of
approximately 350 feet of 24-inch diameter storm sewer from Kaufmann Avenue to the
north in the alley just east of Kurt Street. The storm sewer will capture stormwater that
originates on Primrose Court north of Kaufmann that flows to the alley.
BID RESULTS
Sealed bids were received on the project on June 21, 2007. Drew Cook & Sons
Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa, submitted the low bid in the amount of $23,394.25. This
amount is 31 % under the engineer's estimate of probable cost. A summary of the bid
proposals received is as follows:

RECOMMENDATION

AWARDING PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT CONTRACT FOR THE KAUFMANN
ALLEY STORM SEWER CONSTRUCTION PROJECT
Whereas, sealed proposals have been submitted by contractors for the
Kaufmann Alley Storm Sewer Construction Project (the Project) pursuant to Resolution
No. 291-07 and Notice to Bidders published in a newspaper published in the City of
Dubuque, Iowa on the 25th day of May, 2007.
Whereas, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 21St day of June,
2007 and it has been determined that Drew Cook & Sons Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa,
with a bid in the amount of $23,394.25, is the lowest responsive, responsible bidder for
the Project.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
That a Public Improvement Contract for the Project is hereby awarded to Drew
Cook & Sons Excavating and the City Manager is hereby directed to execute a Public
Improvement Contract on behalf of the City of Dubuque for the Project.
