Sealed bids were received for the York and Curtis Storm Sewer Improvements Project.
City Engineer Gus Psihoyos is recommending award to the low bidder, McDermott
Excavating, in the amount of $35,076.83.
I concur with the recommendation and respectfully request Mayor and City Council
approval.

INTRODUCTION
The enclosed resolution authorizes the award of the construction contract for the
York and Curtis Storm Sewer Improvements Project.
DISCUSSION
The York and Curtis Street Storm Sewer Improvements Project involves the
construction of 180 feet of 30-inch and various other storm sewer piping to
complete the system. It will also provide for two additional catch basins to all but
eliminate the threat of flood damage from major rains.
BID RESULTS
Sealed bids were received on the project on June 28, 2007. McDermott
Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa submitted the low bid in the amount of $35,076.83.
This amount is 23.01 % below the engineer's estimate of probable cost. A
summary of the bid proposals received is as follows:

York and Curtis Storm Sewer Improvements Project to McDermott Excavating in
the amount of $35,076.83.

AWARDING PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT CONTRACT FOR THE YORK AND
CURTIS STORM SEWER IMPROVEMENTS PROJECT
Whereas, sealed proposals have been submitted by contractors for the York and
Curtis Storm Sewer Improvements Project (the Project) pursuant to Resolution No. 317-
07 and Notice to Bidders published in a newspaper published in the City of Dubuque,
Iowa on the 8th day of June, 2007.
Whereas, said sealed proposals were opened and read on the 28th day of June,
2007 and it has been determined that McDermott Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa, with a
bid in the amount of $35,076.83, is the lowest responsive, responsible bidder for the
Project.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF DUBUQUE, IOWA:
That a Public Improvement Contract for the Project is hereby awarded to
McDermott Excavating and the City Manager is hereby directed to execute a Public
Improvement Contract on behalf of the City of Dubuque for the Project.
