American Airlines_Mary Peters USDOTOffice of the Mayor City Hall 50 West 13th Street Dubuque, IA 52001-4864 www.cityofdubuque.org The Honorable Mary Peters Secretary U.S. Department of Transportation 1200 New Jersey Avenue, SE Washington, DC 20590 Docket OST-2007-28567 Dear Madam Secretary: July 11, 2007 THE CITY OF DuB ~ E ~~~,~~/ I am writing to support the application made by American Airlines to obtain route authority to operate a daily nonstop flight from Chicago O'Hare International Airport to Beijing, China, starting on March 25, 2009. As Mayor of Dubuque, Iowa, recently named an "All America City" by the National Civic League, I know that transportation infrastructure is an essential component of economic development. Air connectivity to global markets is a vital tool for our City's businesses and manufacturers. I believe this route would provide a valuable link for Dubuque and the region and will support our growing economy. Dubuque would benefit in another way. We host 3 million visitors annually in the tri-state area. Many travel to our area to see and experience the great Mississippi River. To have the ability to fly nonstop from Chicago to Beijing on American Airlines will provide the maximum benefit to the traveling public as well as to businesses. For these reasons, I respectfully urge you, Secretary Peters, to authorize American to operate nonstop service to Beijing from Chicago in 2009. Thank you.
