RE: PEG Capital Grant Expenditure Requests
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable TV Tele-
Programming Commission to approve two requests for funding from the Capital Grant for
Access Equipment and Facilities.
BACKGROUND
The Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities created by the cable franchise
agreement that went into effect on June 5, 2005, began FY08 with a balance of $285,721. The
FY07 4th quarter adjustment is due on July 20. Currently there is a balance to be awarded of
$180,874.
Last night the Commission recommended two grants from this fund:
• $16,000 for Hempstead High School for a Tricaster portable production unit and Sony
digital camcorder. Combined with their existing gear, this equipment will enable them to
more easily and quickly produce programming for Dubuque Community School's
educational access channel. This is Hempstead's first request for funding.
• $13,000 for a variety of equipment and software for the public access studio at
Mediacom, including virtual set software, a new computer and software for the sound
studio, and meters and monitors for the studio and production van.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
respectfully request that the Commission's recommendations for these requests be forwarded
to the City Council to receive, file, and approve. Thank you.
