Van Milligen, City Manager FROM: Don Vogt, Public Works Director DSV SUBJECT: November 3rd City Council Work Session DATE: October 23, 2014 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to provide a brief outline of the Dubuque City Council work session scheduled for before its regular business meeting on November 3rd. BACKGROUND The Dubuque Metropolitan Area Solid Waste Agency Board of Directors established a strategic goal of "promoting Agency services to policy makers, assist communities in establishing diversion programs, and receive feedback on how to improve Agency services." As part of this goal, staff is tasked with presenting to Agency members and partners its services offered, partnerships, and steps the Agency takes to reduce environmental liability. DISCUSSION Agency representatives will present to the City Council an overview of the Agency's services available to residents and business in Dubuque county, a brief description of the design of a modern landfill, and an update on upcoming projects, including the need to borrow money to fund the closure of Cells 4-8 and construction of Cell 9 phase II. The presentation will be made by Agency Administrator John Foster. ACTION STEP No action recommended — this memorandum provided for informational purposes only. A copy of the presentation is attached.
