MINUTES It was moved by Chuck Duggan, seconded by Karen Lyness, to approve the
APPROVED; minutes of the June 12, 2007 meeting. The motion passed unanimously.
VOTE:
ELECT It was moved ~ Paul Hoffmann, seconded ~ Kim Daykin, to elect Evelyn
OFFICERS; Nadeau, Chair; Karen Lyness, Vice-Chair; and Tom Blocklinger, Secretary for

UPDATE ON Mr. Spence informed commissioners:
C.I.P. PROJECTS:
• Lincoln School playground equipment is being installed this week;
Waller-Cooper renovations will be completed this week; • Southern Avenue
Park playground equipment has been ordered and the installation date is
pending; • Welu Park work will begin some time this Fall; • Fee Collector's
Booth at Eagle Point Park is in process. The entrance to the park and road
work need to be completed.
PARK DIVISION Park Division Manager Bob Fritsch updated commissioners:
REPORT:
• July 3rd Fireworks attracted several patrons to the A.Y. McDonald Park;
A.Y. McDonald Park is utilized well with patrons; •Mlller-Riverview Park
revenue is stronger this year than last year; • Orange Park has been well
attended.
RECREATION Recreation Division Manager Pat Prevenas updated commissioners:
DIVISION
REPORT: • According to the Spring 2007 Recreation Division Report, it was noted
that Hempstead Pool attendance is down this year due to the offering of only
two sessions of swimming lessons. Bunker Hill Golf Course golf rounds for the
month of June are up 1 % from last year and total rounds are up 6% from last
year. It has been a good month at Flora and Sutton swimming pools - On
June 26th, we had 2,824 swimmers enter the gates at Flora Pool; • The Teen
Pool Party at Sutton Pool attracted only 45 swimmers. The next Teen Pool
Party is scheduled for August 4th at Sutton Pool; • A total of 18 claims have
been received from people with damaged swim suits at Flora Pool. We are
encountering a paint problem getting onto swim suits when swimmers are
sitting on the caulk-joint areas. A paint contractor will be working with our
department to correct the problem this fall; • We are into our fifth week of
summer playground programs. The Water Carnival that was held on June
20th at Sutton Pool attracted 275 children, which also marked our first water
rescue for the season; • The City of Dubuque is offering a Summer Lunch

Program at the Comiskey Park and Prescott School sites for girls and boys
ages 8 through 14, where our trained leaders plan, organize and direct the
activities every Monday through Friday, June 11th through August 3rd. Lunch
is served daily from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The Boys and Girls Club are
also offering free lunch programs at their site; • Free Sports Physicals are
being offered on Saturday, July 14th from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Prescott
School Neighborhood Resource Center, 1151 White Street. Physicals are
being provided by Dr. Gregory Crowley, with the Clarke College Nursing
School students volunteering their services.
OTHER • Aribbon-cutting ceremony will take place on Thursday, July 19th at 5:00
BUSINESS: p.m. at Riley Park; • The Pet Park closes at 8:00 p.m. We are in the process
of getting cost estimates for the relocation. Possible sites include Dodge/Bluff
Street, Jones Street, and property near Art Pape Transfer at 12th Street;
Several compliments have been received regarding the Bunker Hill Golf
Course. Maintenance workers have been working on the weekends watering
the greens during our hot weekend weather; • Landscaping at Washington
Park has been completed.
