WHEREAS, United States Senator Tom Harkin is retiring from Congress after forty
years of service to the citizens of Dubuque and Iowa as a member of the
House of Representatives and the United States Senate; and
WHEREAS, Senator Harkin was responsible for authoring the American's for Disability
Act and is a tireless advocate for all citizens regardless of their level of
ability; and
WHEREAS, Senator Harkin provided unceasing support for Dubuque's efforts in the
area of economic development and tourism specifically riverfront
development, Main Street improvements, the historic Millwork District, Bee
Branch; and
WHEREAS, Senator Harkin of was a proponent of maintaining and expanding vital
transportation infrastructure to support a strong economy locally,
regionally and nationally; and
WHEREAS, the Senator has always maintained a leadership role in heath wellness
and education, supporting Dubuque's private colleges and community
college and community health center.
NOW THEREFORE, I, ROY D. BUOL, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF DUBUQUE, IOWA,
ON BEHALF OF THE CITY COUNCIL, STAFF, AND CITIZENS OF DUBUQUE, DO
HEREBY PROCLAIM THE CITY'S APPRECIATION AND DEEP GRATITUDE FOR
SENATOR HARKIN'S LEADERSHIP, SUPPORT AND FRIENDSHIP OVER THE PAST
FORTY YEARS.
IN WITNESS THEREOF, I have hereunto
