Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project DATE: December 8, 2014 Through the informal bid process for public improvements, the Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project was awarded on September 18, 2014, to McDermott Excavating, in the amount of $29,911.75. The project was completed in the final contract amount of $39,669.30, which is 33% over the contract award. The additional cost was due to necessary repairs in the Olive Garden parking lot and some extra work grading slopes and raising structures south of Center Grove Drive. City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends that the award for the West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project be officially recorded in the minutes of the City Council. VanMilligen, City Manager FROM: Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer SUBJECT: Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project (CIP 7201066) DATE: December 5, 2014 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to officially record in the minutes of the City Council the award and completion of the Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project. BACKGROUND The 42" corrugated metal pipe under Center Grove Drive was deteriorated to the point of failure causing street settlements and sink holes. The corrugated metal pipe was replaced with reinforced concrete pipe. DISCUSSION On September 18, 2014 the City of Dubuque received informal bids for Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project in the amounts of: McDermott Excavating $29,911.75 Top Grade Excavating $38,752.70 W.C. Stewart Construction $47,992.88 Dave Fondell Excavating $71,098.74 In accordance with Iowa Code § 384.103 and § 364.12(3)(c), and Iowa Code, Section 26.14, through the informal bid process for public improvements, this project was awarded on September 18, 2014 to McDermott Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa, in the amount of$29,911.75. The Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project was completed by McDermott Excavating of Dubuque, Iowa in the final contract amount of $39,669.30 which is 33% over the contract amount of$29,911.75. The project cost increase is due to necessary repairs in the Olive Garden parking lot and some extra work grading slopes and raising structures south of Center Grove Drive. BUDGETIMPACT The project was funded from the General Storm Repairs CIP 7201066. Cost summary for the Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project is as follows: Award Final Construction Contract $29,911.75 $39,669.30 Miscellaneous Costs (Pipe & Tree Removal) 10,265.38 10,265.38 Contingency 2,991 .18 0.00 Construction Engineering & Inspection 4,935.44 0.00 Total Project Cost $48.103.75 4 4. The miscellaneous costs were for pipe procurement, tree removal and cleanup performed prior to excavation. REQUESTED ACTION I respectfully request in accordance with the above codes the Center Grove Drive Storm Sewer Project costs be officially recorded in the minutes of the City Council.
