Van Milligen, City Manager SUBJECT: West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project DATE: December 8, 2014 Through the informal bid process for public improvements, the West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project was awarded on July 15, 2014, to W.C. Stewart Construction, in the amount of $32,947.95. The project was completed in the final contract amount of $35,560.95, which is 8% over the contract award. The additional cost was due to an added structure for future extension, if needed. City Engineer Gus Psihoyos recommends that the award for the West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project be officially recorded in the minutes of the City Council. VanMilligen, City Manager FROM: Gus Psihoyos, City Engineer ._-q SUBJECT: West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project (CIP 7201066) DATE: December 5, 2014 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this memorandum is to officially record in the minutes of the City Council the award and completion of the West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project. BACKGROUND The 48" corrugated metal pipe under W 32nd Street was deteriorated to the point of failure causing street settlements and sink holes. The corrugated metal pipe was replaced with reinforced concrete pipe. DISCUSSION On July 15, 2014 the City of Dubuque received informal bids for the West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project in the amounts of: W.C. Stewart Construction $32,947.95 McDermott Excavating $34,124.10 Top Grade Excavating $39,975.00 Based on Iowa Code § 384.103 and § 364.12(3)(c), and Iowa Code, Section 26.14, through the informal bid process for public improvements, this project was awarded on July 15, 2014 to W.C. Stewart Construction of Dubuque, IA, in the amount of $32,947.95. The West 32nd Street Storm Sewer Project was completed by W.C. Stewart Construction of Dubuque, Iowa in the final contract amount of$35,560.95 which is 8% over the contract amount of$32,947.95. The project cost increase is due to an added structure for future extension if needed. BUDGET IMPACT The project was funded from the General Storm Repairs CIP 7201066.
