RE: PEG Capital Grant Expenditure Requests
INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this memorandum is to forward a recommendation from the Cable TV Tele-
Programming Commission to approve two requests for funding from the Capital Grant for
Access Equipment and Facilities.
BACKGROUND
The Capital Grant for Access Equipment and Facilities created by the cable franchise
agreement that went into effect on June 5, 2005, began FY08 with a balance of $285,721. The
FY07 4th quarter adjustment most recently added $3,446. Currently there is a balance to be
awarded of $155,320.
Last night the Commission recommended two grants from this fund:
• $8,500 for Wahlert High School a variety of equipment including cameras and wireless
microphones to improve the quality of their field production. Wahlert is a frequent
contributor to educational access Channel 17.
• $4,800 for the access community at large for a camera jib and supporting equipment. A
jib is tripod boom with an extension arm which provides dynamic shots as the camera is
raised and lowered by an operator standing on the ground watching a remote monitor.
The jib will add an extra dimension to public access sports broadcasts, shows like "Kids
in the Kitchen" and "The Garden Organic", and the City's telecasts of parades and City
Expo.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
I respectfully request that the Commission's recommendations for these requests be forwarded
to the City Council to receive, file, and approve. Thank you.
