BUILDING CODE BOARD OF APPEALS

The meeting was called to order by Chair Gudenkauf. It was announced that
the meeting was being held in conformance with the Iowa Open Meetings
law.
Kolf motioned to approve the minutes of the November 13, 2001 meeting.
Luchsinger seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
A discussion was held regarding the major differences between the 1997
Uniform Building Code and the 2000 International Building Code and
International Residential Code. The following issues were seen as concerns
by members of the Board: the height of the guardrail for the stairs, the
Certificate of Occupancy for single-family dwellings and Appendix F (Radon
Mitigation), which is supported by staff and the Environmental Stewardship
Commission.
The Board members will further review the codes for our next meeting and
bring any concerns to the other members' attention.
4. Rich announced that the City of Dubuque Building Services Department and
Dubuque Homebuilders and Associates are co-sponsoring an IRC training
seminar on February 25th at the Midway: The registration fee for Board
members will be provided by the City.
5. The next board meeting will be on February 28, 2002 at 4:00 PM.
Carr motioned to adjourn. Jahns seconded. Motion carried 5-0.
