Minutes Human Rights 12 10 01DUBUQUE HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION MINUTES OF December 10. 2001 Thom Determan called the meeting of the Dubuque Human Rights Commission to order at 4:20 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2001 in Conference Room 2 at the City Hall Annex. Roll Call: Present: Kathy Blau Thom Determan Judy Giesen Evelyn Jackson Kathy Stevens Ruby Sutton Chuck Ryan Marry O'Shea Absent: Raydora Drummer Staff: Carol Spinoso Bill Blum Kelly Larson Approval of Minutes: Commissioner O'Shea moved to table the November 5, 2001 meeting minutes until the January 2002 meeting. Commissioner Jackson seconded. After discussion, Commissioner Blau called for the question, and Commissioner Stevens seconded. All in favor. The Commission voted in favor of Commissioner O'Shea's motion to table the November meeting minutes until the January 2002 meeting. Caseload Report: Carol summarized the November caseload statistics. Chairperson's Report: Commissioner Determan reported on Chair initiatives dudng the last month. Director's Report. Kelly reported on staff initiatives for the month of November. Report on Dubuque 365/Everyone's Neighborhood Commissioner Giesen distributed an informational packet on Everyone's Neighborhood. Updates on Goal Progress from Committee Chairs Commissioner Ryan distributed Commission business cards. Commissioner Stevens will meet with Faces & Voices representatives about the possibility of presenting the Shining Moment Award at an event. Commissioner Blau presented a proposal for Commissioner initiated complaints. The proposal will be discussed at next month's meeting. Commissioner Giesen reported that the committee is continuing with the plans for the Spanish lessons. Commissioner O'Shea will prepare to educate the Commission on disability issues in January or February. Closing Remarks fi.om Departing Commissioners Commissioners Sutton, Blau and Determan presented departing comments. Communication Submitted by Respondent's Attorney in Parris vs. Maro No action was taken with respect to this item. New Business Commissioner O'Shea distributed a handout requesting reconsideration of streamlining the minutes, and handouts relating to Pards vs. Mare. As part of Human Rights Day, Commissioner Stevens moved to direct Commissioner Determan to speak to the media regarding human dghts issues. Commissioner Sutton seconded. All in favor.
