CITY COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS
SPECIAL SESSION

The Dubuque City Council met in special session at 5:30 p.m. on October 2 2014 at
the Grand River Center, 500 Bell Street.
Present: Mayor Buol; Council Members Braig, Connors, Jones, Lynch, Resnick,
Sutton; City Manager Van Milligen, City Attorney Lindahl
Staff present: City Attorney's Crenna Brumwell and Maureen Quann, Assistant City
Clerk Trish Gleason
Mayor Buol read the call and stated this is a special session of the City Council called
for the purpose of conducting the City Council Goal Setting Session.
GOAL SETTING SESSION
(Follow up to August 25 & 26, 2014 Sessions)
Lyle Sumek, of Sumek and Associates, facilitated the FY 2015 City Council's third
and final goal setting session. Following discussion, the City Council reached
consensus on the 2029 Dubuque Vision Statement, City Mission Statement and
established the following goals and priorities for 2014-2016.
2029 DUBUQUE VISION STATEMENT
The city of Dubuque is a progressive, sustainable city with a strong, diversified
economy and expanding global connections. The Dubuque community is an inclusive
community celebrating culture and heritage and has actively preserved our
"Masterpiece on the Mississippi." Dubuque citizens experience healthy living and
retirement through quality, livable neighborhoods with an abundance of fun things to do
and are engaged in the community, achieving goals through partnerships. Dubuque city
government is financially sound and is providing services with citizens getting value for
their tax dollar.
CITY MISSION STATEMENT
The City's mission is to deliver excellent municipal services that support urban living
and a sustainable city plan for the community's future and facilitate access to critical
human services which result in financially sound government and citizens getting
services and value for their tax dollar.
